Industry Frontiers | National Energy Administration Convenes National Conference on "Artificial Intelligence+" Energy Field Promotion

#Industry information ·2026-05-02 11:40:58

On May 26, the National "AI + Energy" On-site Promotion Conference was held in Shenzhen.
Grounded in the dual waves of global energy transition and artificial intelligence (AI) revolution, the conference focused on the deep integration of AI and the energy industry. It unveiled multiple significant achievements, charting a clear course and setting the direction for the high-quality development of "AI + Energy" in China. This event marks a crucial milestone, signaling that the intelligent transformation of the domestic energy sector has entered a new phase of systematic implementation and large-scale promotion from fragmented exploration, serving as an important driving force for building an energy powerhouse and cultivating new quality productive forces in the energy field.
The National Energy Administration (NEA) officially released the first batch of high-value application scenarios for "AI + Energy," comprising 51 premium scenarios across eight core categories. These scenarios cover critical links throughout the entire energy industry chain, including intelligent grid planning and dispatch, high-precision wind and solar power forecasting, intelligent unmanned coal mining, virtual power plant collaborative dispatch, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) interaction. Grounded in actual industry pain points, these scenarios are specifically designed to address long-standing challenges such as low operational efficiency in traditional energy operations, insufficient accuracy in renewable energy forecasting, high risks in mine operation and maintenance, and imbalanced allocation of energy resources. The practical application of each scenario will drive quality improvements and efficiency gains across the entire chain of energy production, transmission, storage, and utilization, achieving a qualitative leap in the productivity of the energy industry.
Adhering to the innovative philosophy of openness and collaboration, the conference comprehensively opened up tracks for scenario innovation and broke down industry barriers. Domestic energy enterprises, technology suppliers, and research institutions can independently form joint innovation consortiums integrating industry, academia, research, and application, participating in scenario implementation through open competitive bidding. This innovative mechanism effectively integrates multi-party resources from industry, technology, and research, resolving issues such as fragmented innovation resources, disconnection between technology and industry, and slow commercialization of results. It establishes a market-oriented competitive and integrated collaborative innovation platform, injecting strong momentum into the large-scale implementation of "AI + Energy" scenarios.
Previously, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the NEA jointly issued relevant implementation guidelines, explicitly proposing accelerated requirements for AI empowerment in energy scenarios. The 51 high-value scenarios strictly align with the policy's eight major application directions. They aim to form comprehensive solutions that are replicable, promotable, and scalable through pilot exploration and benchmark creation, establish mature commercialized operating models, create a new paradigm for the integrated development of "AI + Energy," and comprehensively elevate the digitalization and intelligentization levels of the energy industry.
In specific fields of application, AI achieves all-round empowerment of the energy industry. In the power grid sector, AI is deeply integrated into planning reviews, dispatch operations, and fault troubleshooting, significantly enhancing the refined and intelligent operation level of the grid and ensuring its safe and stable operation. In the renewable energy sector, relying on multi-source data fusion technology, the accuracy of wind and solar power generation forecasting has been effectively improved, facilitating the market-oriented operation and base-scale development of renewable energy, and boosting grid connection and consumption capabilities. In emerging energy business models, AI provides core technical support for the incubation and large-scale development of new formats such as virtual power plants and V2G interaction, revitalizing the energy industry.
Wang Hongzhi, Director of the NEA, stated that China's "AI + Energy" development has achieved a key leap from concept to practice and from pilots to widespread promotion. The industrial landscape continues to iterate, innovation outcomes have seen breakthroughs in multiple areas, and the foundation for integrated development has become increasingly solid. Looking ahead, AI and the energy industry will mutually empower each other in depth. This will not only comprehensively upgrade energy production, operation, and management models but also drive profound changes in the relations of production within the energy sector, laying a solid foundation for the leap in new quality productive forces in the industry.
